CCTV Services & Benefits
With the introduction of faster broadband services, IP CCTV is a new member of the IOT (Internet of Things) community in that it now provides a “live feed” from all your cameras over a cabled or WIFI network. This coupled with a smartphone app allows instant notification of movement caught by the camera(S) from literally anywhere.
To fully benefit from CCTV, cameras should be strategically positioned around the site to eliminate blind spots that could conceal suspicious activity and increase security risks. A free site survey will help determine the optimal camera locations. Proper setup, including camera placement, motion detection, and a secure network, is crucial for an effective surveillance system.
CCTV systems store footage on-site or off-site using devices like DVRs (Digital Video Recorders) or NVRs (Network Video Recorders). However, with the introduction of faster broadband connections, cloud technology has changed how we store footage. With cloud CCTV, footage is saved in a secure data center, protected from tampering and damage, in the form of fire, flood or theft. Plus, it offers unlimited storage since you’re not limited by on-site hardware.
An added benefit is the ability to have updates, patches and firmware applied remotely.
This is determined by a variety of factors that includes the size of the storage offered by the NVR, the number and resolution of the cameras.
e.g. 1) a 4 camera system recording at a high resolution of 1080 on a 2TB drive drive would store around 24 days of footage. Change that to a 4TB drive and you now have 48 days of footage.
e.g. 2) a 4 camera system recording at a higher resolution of say 4k on a 4TB drive drive would store around 24 days of footage.
Cameras come in 3 forms namely Shape, Resolution and Use.
Shapes would include dome, bullet or PTZ (Pitch Tilt Zoom)
Resolution would determine the type & level of recording quality you want. e.g.If you wish to record car registration plates etc.
Use would determine if for internal or external use and include monitoring vehicles, security, calving, lambing, livestock, remote crops etc.
YES. We have many remote connections in farms & barns where fibre broadband is not available that rely solely on 4/5G, Satellite or WiFi relay. The faster the speed, the better the quality.
Site surveys are conducted free of charge and serve four primary purposes:
- Advising on the best connection method to be adopted for your location: This is to establish the broadband types & speeds available to you to maximise CCTV performance.
- Security Assessment: This is to establish the areas you want to monitor and how you wish to be notified.
- Advising on Camera types: There are a variety of types of cameras each have their own benefits. We will advise you based on your needs.
- Legal Compliance: To ensure you are aware of your legal requirements.
To comply with the Data Protection Act and if used in a public or business environment, you should only keep CCTV footage for as long as it’s needed for security purposes. There’s no fixed time limit, but holding it too long without a valid reason may breach data protection laws.
In the UK, recording audio on a security camera isn’t automatically illegal, but it is heavily regulated. Under the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, audio recording is considered more intrusive than video.
If you plan to use visual and audio/visual CCTV in the workplace, all staff must be informed. If members of the public visit the premises, recording their conversations would be seen unlawful. Under the Invasion of Privacy Act, audio recording is only legal if you are part of the conversation.
As a homeowner or business owner, you’re allowed to install CCTV on your property, as long as it follows the rules set out by GDPR and the Data Protection Act (DPA). For private homes, these laws usually don’t apply if the cameras only cover your own property. However, if the system captures areas beyond your boundary like public spaces or neighbouring properties data protection laws must be followed.

When used on a domestic property, generally NO. However, if your camera(s) capture public spaces or your neighbours property then YES
If used in a business or commercial environment then YES this is mandatory
